"Research Data Commons" Kick-Off
The world of research data management (RDM) is evolving fast, and the Helmholtz Association is leading the charge to explore its full potential. With data becoming a cornerstone of scientific progress, economic innovation, and societal development, effective RDM is more critical than ever. In light of this, the new event series Research Data Commons was launched, a dynamic new forum designed to unite researchers from across its centers to share insights, solutions, and best practices around managing research data.
The Research Data Commons is a joint initiative from us, the Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC), and the Helmholtz Open Science Office. Its mission is to create a space where Helmholtz employees can engage in open dialogue about the challenges and opportunities in RDM. By providing a platform to exchange experiences and discuss relevant topics, the forum aims to help develop common strategies to improve the quality, visibility, and accessibility of research data.
The first event of this recurring forum took place in December 2024, with a focus on the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), data visibility, and overall data quality – critical areas for researchers working with complex datasets. By prioritizing these topics, the Research Data Commons will help shape a more collaborative and transparent data management culture across Helmholtz Centers. You can find more information about the first event here as well as our joint publication on it.
This initiative reflects a growing need for cross-center cooperation, ensuring that the Helmholtz Association is not only keeping pace with the evolving landscape of research data but also setting the standard for best practices across the scientific community.
The Research Data Commons is open to all Helmholtz employees, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to discussions, share lessons learned, and be part of shaping the future of research data management.
Stay tuned for future RDC Forum events here.
