The Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC) promotes the qualitative enrichment of research data by means of metadata – and implements this approach across the whole organization.

HMC develops and implements novel concepts and technologies for a sustainable handling of research data through high-quality metadata. Its main goal is to make the depth and breadth of research data produced by Helmholtz Centres findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR) for whole science community. Read more


The hub is the link between the individual expertise of the three DLR domains. The aim of the "AST" hub is to professionalise the processes, components and systems with a view to the metadata perspective in the domains.

Earth and Environment

The Hub Earth and Environment Hub deals with research data on the earth system. These originate e.g. from research vessels, expeditions, measurement campaigns or sensor devices, but also from computer models.

The Helmholtz scientists involved in the field of energy research are working to develop solutions to secure an economically, ecologically and socially sustainable supply of energy. The Hub Energy supports the research area energy in making energy data FAIR.

The Hub Health supports the integration of metadata from research and clinics to facilitate the comparison of large data sets thereby improving prevention and early detection of disease, diagnosis, and therapy.

In working package FAIR Data Commons Technologies and Processes are developed and described, in order to make metadata available via generic interfaces and services.
