1. Helmholtz Research Data Commons Forum

12.12.2024 | 10:00 – 12:00 h

Fostering FAIRness, Visibility, Data Quality

Research data respectively research data management (RDM) is an increasingly prominent topic as it holds unique scientific, societal and economical potential. Across the Helmholtz Association, there are numerous community-specific approaches and initiatives to solve various RDM challenges. There is an increasing need for exchange between the Helmholtz Centers, to share good practices and explore possible common threads of action.

For this, the Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC) and the Helmholtz Open Science Office are launching “Research Data Commons”, a joint recurring Helmholtz-forum for the exchange and discussion of research data-relevant topics at Helmholtz. The format of the Research Data Commons invites employees from all centers to share their experiences and approaches around specific focus-topics.

The Research Data Commons series will kick-off with a focus on FAIRness, visibility and data quality. Among others along the new concept for Helmholtz-wide quality indicators for software- and data products, developed by the corresponding Task Group, which aims to make software and data publications more visible and simultaneously improve their quality standards according to FAIR-principles. This event is aimed at a broad audience and all interested Helmholtz-employees are welcome! After a welcome and a short introduction of the Research Data Commons concept, there will be inputs on the concept of the quality indicator and some tooling approaches that could be helpful in the implementation, followed by the possibility for exchange and discussion.
