HMC @ RDAde & PID-Network

26.02.2025

The RDA Germany Conference 2025 took place from 18 to 19 February 2025 at the Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences Research (GFZ, Telegrafenberg). The conference is organised annually by the RDA DE association in cooperation with the Helmholtz Open Science Office and deals with overarching topics of research data management.

This year's highlights included a keynote speech on ‘Open Science in France’ by Marin Dacos, who explained the RDM strategy in France in detail. Other topics included the Helmholtz DataHub, which was presented by Wolfgang zu Castell, and aspects of artificial intelligence in research data management. A particular highlight was Maximilian Kiener's presentation on the diffusion of responsibilities in AI-supported research data management, in which roles and responsibilities for AI-supported decisions were discussed. On the second day, the various data competence centres that have been set up by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of a funding initiative presented themselves. Many of the presentations are available online.

HMC was on site with four posters. These included an overview poster on HMC, one on developments in FDM in the HMC Hub Matter, one on the implementation of PID types in the metadata of datasets, and one on groups and responsibilities in PID metadata.

As always, the conference was well attended and offered plenty of opportunity for stimulating dialogue. The next RDA-DE will take place again at the GFZ in February 2026.

The RDA-DE conference was followed by a workshop organised by the PID Network Germany, at which PIDs for physical objects were discussed. Among other topics, the new PID Monitor was presented. This was followed by workshops in which the opportunities and challenges of PIDs for objects, but also in general, were discussed. This workshop also brought together concentrated expertise and offered plenty of opportunity to exchange ideas on this specific topic.
