First HMC Conference successfully concluded
Packed with the latest metadata topics, the first HMC conference took place virtually on October 5-6 2022. Over 180 participants attended the two-day event and shared their ideas about metadata and FAIR.
The opening keynote by Carole Goble (University of Manchester) on "RO-Crate: packaging metadata love notes into FAIR Digital Objects" provided a perspective on the technical implementation of FAIR. The following sessions gave an insight into the work of the different HMC units. Besides a update from the HMC projects from the first call, HMC highlights on FAIR Concepts, FAIRification, Use Cases & Workflows, and Metadata Standards & Semantics were presented.
During the poster sessions, with more than 70 contributions, many used the opportunity to delve deeper into individual aspects of metadata. Topics that were presented on the posters ranged from tools forrom metadata management, semantics, policies/processes to standards.
Finally, the keynote by Giles Miller (NHM London) on "Join the Dots: creating metadata for a collection of 80 million items at The Natural History Museum, London" provided insight into the practical aspects of metadata management in the museum sector.
The contributions of the conference are available in a Zenodo community, further information can be found on the event page.
We are already looking forward to the next HMC conference in the fall next year.
