HMC Data Professionals Survey 2024 - Report has been published
Recent HMC survey sheds light on research data management perspectives within the Helmholtz Association
Following the success of its 2021 researchers survey the Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration conducted a Data Professionals Survey in 2024. The results have now been published, providing a detailed look at research data management (RDM) practices within the Helmholtz Association. The survey collected 156 responses from staff across 16 Helmholtz centres and all six research fields, ensuring a broad and representative perspective.
Findings reveal that RDM responsibilities are spread across various roles and organisational levels, with most participants familiar with their centre’s data policies. However, the majority report not having received formal RDM training, despite strong interest in such opportunities. Respondents identified significant challenges, including limited resources, technical knowledge gaps, and insufficient infrastructure. The survey also offers insights into the adoption of the FAIR data principles and the collaborative use of RDM tools.
These results, enhanced by focus group feedback, help HMC shape its future strategies to strengthen the FAIR data ecosystem across the Helmholtz Association.
