Speaker: Prof Dr Sören Auer (Director TIB Hannover)
Title: Organizing scholarly knowledge and research data with the Open Research Knowledge Graph
Date: Friday, 29 April 2022, 1 p.m. CEST
The communication of scholarly knowledge has hardly changed for centuries: It's document-based - once as a classic paper essay, now as a PDF. With around 2.5 million new research articles published every year, researchers are drowning in a flood of PDFs, many of which are not machine-readable. We are rethinking knowledge communication: Instead of static PDFs, we are relying on knowledge graphs. TIB is working with partners to link knowledge in a wide variety of forms - texts, images, videos, 3D models and much more - using knowledge graphs. These are intended to represent different research ideas, methods and results in a machine-readable way, so that completely new connections of knowledge come to light. The major global challenges require interdisciplinarity and the merging of knowledge. The Open Research Knowledge Graph developed by TIB can make this possible and revolutionize the sharing of knowledge.

To stimulate and support interdisciplinary exchange, the Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC) in close cooperation with the Helmholtz Information & Data Science Academy (HIDA) is organizing the HMC FAIR Friday lecture series. It is aimed at experienced actors in research data management as well as scientists from all research fields of the Helmholtz Association and beyond.
HMC FAIR Friday features talks by high-ranking national and international speakers to bring all participants (even) closer to the world of FAIR data, deepen individual aspects and stimulate discussions.
