Keynote Speaker: Prof. Dr. Oliver Stegle

03.02.2026

We are delighted to welcome Prof. Dr. Oliver Stegle, Director and Co-Spokesperson of the German Human Genome-Phenome Archive (GHGA) and Division Head at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, as a keynote speaker at the HMC Conference 2026.

Prof. Stegle is a leading expert in computational genomics and scientific research infrastructures. As Director of GHGA, a central initiative within the German National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), he plays a key role in enabling the secure, FAIR-aligned use of sensitive human genomic and phenomic data for research. In addition, he leads the Computational Genomics and Systems Genetics Division at DKFZ and holds a research leadership position at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).

In his keynote, Prof. Stegle will bring the perspective of large-scale scientific infrastructure to the theme “Metadata in Action.” Drawing on his experience in building and coordinating national and international data infrastructures, he will discuss how robust, secure, and scalable infrastructures form the foundation for effective metadata practices. His talk will highlight how integrated data workflows, governance frameworks, and interoperability can make metadata actionable, support reproducible research, and enable interdisciplinary collaboration in the era of genomics and data-intensive biomedicine.

Join us at the HMC Conference 2026 in Heidelberg April 28-30th 2026.
