Ontology Alignment
OniOn: A Novel RGCN-based Ontology Alignment Approach
Energy systems including smart grids, distributed energy resources, and renewable energy applications generate large volumes of distributed and rapidly changing data. Differences in terminology, formats, standards, and ontology structures make these data difficult to share and combine, creating a major barrier to interoperability and integrated analysis.
OniOn addresses this challenge as the ontology-matching component of an Ontology-Based Data Integration (OBDI) framework. It automatically identifies semantically corresponding concepts across heterogeneous ontologies, helping map data from different sources into a consistent semantic framework and supporting more flexible, scalable integration.
The method combines text representations of concept labels and descriptions with a Relational Graph Convolutional Network (R-GCN), which captures ontology hierarchies and distinct relation types. By bringing lexical and structural information together, OniOn aims to improve matching across complex ontologies and support data integration in the energy domain.
