HMC Project Kick-Off: REDataNet

REDataNet officially kicks off

The new HMC project REDataNet has officially launched with a successful kick-off event. Together with about 30 representatives from academia, government agencies, organizations, and companies, the event introduced the project's vision and objectives while providing an opportunity to exchange ideas and identify key challenges for the collaborative development of a community-driven network.

A key takeaway from the discussion: There is a strong need for closer collaboration in the area of location data for renewable energy facilities. Many stakeholders work with comparable data sets and face similar challenges, ranging from data quality and varying data standards to lacking interoperability.

REDataNet addresses these challenges by bringing together expertise from across the community. Over the next two years, the project will work to:

• bring together relevant stakeholders, datasets, and data processes,
• develop a common semantic metadata standard,
• create tools for collaborative data management, and
• support integration with existing research data infrastructures.

All members of REDataNet look forward to a continued dialogue and to working with many dedicated partners to lay the foundation for FAIR, transparent, and interoperable location data for renewable energy facilities.
