INSTRUGRAM – Instrument Registration Automated Management
The HMC project INSTRUGRAM focuses on the semi-automated registration of instrument metadata and PIDs. Within the frame of this project, a templating system to collect, prepare and provide metadata sets for various instrument types will be developed. This templating scheme will be based on the already existing PIDINST schema, thereby allowing compatibility with already existing services, which will be expanded where necessary. The idea is to only add dynamic information such as serial numbers or owners to the templates in order to create a complete metadata entry from it. Therefore the templates will link to controlled vocabularies as well as other PID systems (e.g. ORCID or ROR). The registration of metadata from those templates will be allowed via a software component which is also being developed during this project. The software will allow to register instruments at different target systems. Those will be integrated via a plugin system allowing to add further target systems when needed. The first target systems integrated will be the metadatamangement systems used by the project consortium, which are O2A Registry as well as SMS. Also PID registration b2inst is planned to be implemented.
The tool will support automated registration via an open API, enable community-driven template development, and contribute to ongoing standardization efforts. All results, including software, templates, and documentation, will be published for long-term reuse.
