HMC Conference 2027

10.03.2027 – 12.03.2027

From Metadata to Meaning

How does metadata create meaning in research?

From 10–12 March 2027, the HMC Conference 2027 will bring the metadata community together at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Karlsruhe, Germany.

Under the theme “From Metadata to Meaning”, the HMC Conference 2027 will explore how metadata provides context, reveals relationships, and enables research information to be interpreted across disciplines, infrastructures, and applications.

From semantic standards and knowledge graphs to research workflows, metadata quality, AI, governance, and Open Science, the conference will bring together perspectives on how metadata turns isolated information into meaningful connections – and how those connections can support both human understanding and machine-driven research. Researchers, data stewards, developers, and infrastructure experts are invited to share approaches, discuss current challenges, and discover new perspectives across the metadata community.

The programme will feature keynote presentations, contributed talks, posters, demos, interactive workshops, and opportunities for exchange and networking.
