Start of HMC Project HARMONise

27.04.2022

Last week, the HMC project “HARMONise” met for a 2-hour virtual kick-off meeting. The participants presented the status quo of biomolecular (meta)data management in the participating groups, and initiated discussions about tasks and timelines for the upcoming months.

The project aims at “Enhancing the interoperability of marine biomolecular (meta)data across Helmholtz Centres”. It will build on locally administered (meta)databases and establish a web-based hub to exchange metadata compliant with domain-specific standards, to better embed biomolecular metadata in broader digital ecosystems and other research domains.

The team had also invited representatives from the HMC Earth & Environment Hub and the leadership (focusing on digital strategy) of the Ocean Biomolecular Observing Network (OBON) Programme of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Connections to the HMC and UN Ocean Decade will be part of the core mission of HARMONise.

Contributing institutions are the Alfred-Wegener-Institut Helmholtz Zentrum für Polar- und Meeresforschung and the GEOMAR Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel.
